Only a few more days and the South by Southwest Festival will start. As one of the finalists of the Accelerator competition, we’re very excited that we will be pitching Surfly on March 8.

Out of more than 500 applications, only 48 startups were selected as finalists for the competition. We were wondering who these other finalists were and where they came from.

Although most of the finalists are from the USA, Europe also has its share: the Netherlands even has two startups in the competition.

Take a look at our infographic to find out about the finalists of the 2014 SXSW Accelerator.

We’ve also created an infographic of the finalists in the previous years of the SXSW Accelerator (2009–2013).

As one of the finalists of the South by Southwest Accelerator, we are excited that we will be presenting Surfly this coming March in Austin. Not every year is a startup from the Netherlands nominated for this event… or perhaps it is?

There seemed to be no clear list of all the previous finalists, so we decided to collect the data ourselves. While gathering the data, we came across some interesting information about previous finalists. Did you know that most of the winners of the Accelerator come from the USA? The only two winners that where not USA based came from the UK and Finland.

The fact that only three European startups have won the competition thus far and that until 2013 there have been only two Dutch nominations, made us even more enthusiastic. We are looking forward to presenting Surfly in a 2-minute pitch at the Hilton Austin downtown on Saturday, March 8.

To share the collected data and interesting facts with you, we put everything into a great infographic.

We’ve also created an infographic of the finalists of the 2014 SXSW Accelerator.

Amsterdam-based startup Surfly is a finalist at the South by Southwest Accelerator

Amsterdam, January 23, 2014 – Dutch startup Surfly is a finalist in the category “social” at the South by Southwest Accelerator (SXSW), which takes place from March 7 till March 16 in Austin, Texas. The SXSW Accelerator provides a platform for startups to present themselves. Every year the most impressive technological innovations are presented here to a panel of industry experts, early adopters, journalists, venture capitalists and angel investors. Out of hundreds of applications, Surfly has been selected to present its innovative service here.

Surfly is an Internet tool that allows you to surf the Internet with someone else, in an easy, fast and secure way. Surfly can be used, for example, when you want to book a trip with a distant friend or to give a presentation remotely. This is possible via without having to download any additional software.

Surfly was launched in October 2013 during TechCrunch Disrupt Europe in Berlin. In January, Surfly was voted Best Tool 2013 by the website All My Faves. Now Surfly is a finalist at the South by Southwest Accelerator. South by Southwest is seen as the most important event for music, film and technology.

“We are looking forward to presenting at South by Southwest, the event that made innovative companies like Twitter and Foursquare big. With Surfly we can make the Internet much more social. Surfly makes it possible to surf on a website with someone or to help others with a website.” – Nicholas Piël, CEO of Surfly

During South by Southwest, Surfly will introduce a product that allows companies to integrate the service into their own offerings. For example, a company can integrate Surfly into its own website to make it easy for customer service agents to get a real-time look at a customer’s screen to provide better support.
